During his treatment, each of his brothers Phillip, Ralph, and Wendell, have undergone a successful prostatectomy, precipitated by the benefits of an early cancer screening. It was the untimely loss of Jimmy that was the impetus for the creation of Jazz4PCA. These featured musicians have donated their craftsmanship, creativity and favor to assist with accomplishing Jazz4PCA&#8217;s mission &#8211; advocating for men&#8217;s wellness and early detection for prostate cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-top\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);margin-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);margin-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-top:0;padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-bottom:0;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);grid-template-columns:40% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"357\" height=\"387\" src=\"https:\/\/jazz4pca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/03.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-586 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jazz4pca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/03.jpg 357w, https:\/\/jazz4pca.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/03-277x300.jpg 277w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Nat Adderley Jr. &#8211; Composer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Born in jazz royalty as the son and nephew of jazz greats trumpeter\u00a0<strong>Nat Adderley<\/strong>\u00a0and saxophonist\u00a0<strong>Julian \u201cCannonball\u201d Adderley, Nat Adderley Jr.<\/strong>\u00a0is perhaps best known for his composer\/arranger\/production work with\u00a0<strong>Luther Vandross.<\/strong>\u00a0Nat composed and arranged Luther\u2019s first top 20 pop hit, \u201cStop to Love\u201d, along with other popular Luther songs, including \u201cWait for Love\u201d, the Grammy-nominated \u201cGive me the Reason\u201d, and \u201cThe Closer I Get To You\u201d, Luther\u2019s duet with\u00a0<strong>Beyonce Knowles<\/strong>\u00a0which won a Grammy in 2004 for best R&amp;B performance by a duo or group. Nat was Luther\u2019s close friend and his musical director from 1981 until his death. Nat recorded, performed, arranged, and produced successfully with many other artists including\u00a0<strong>Kirk Whalum, Natalie Cole, Johnny Gill, Aretha Franklin<\/strong>, and the\u00a0<strong>Temptations<\/strong>. His original music can be heard on Telarc and Dream Box records. His song \u201cBittersweet\u201d made the Contemporary Jazz Charts top-ten list. His music can also be heard on &#8220;Jazz Showcase,&#8221; a major internationally released CD that is a compilation of Telarc&#8217;s greatest jazz recordings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CBS recorded John\u2019s original solo piano music and he composed the score for the film&#8221;Lit&#8217;l Boy Grown.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As pianist for international jazz recording artist Steve Nelson for over five years, and Jeanie Bryson for over 10 years, John has also worked with Cassandra Wilson, Terence Blanchard, Regina Belle, Christy Baron,<br>Charlie Rouse, Bobby Watson, James Spaulding, Jimmy Ponder,<br>Bill Hardman and Earl May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A self taught, accomplished and versatile musician, John was born and raised in New York City\u2019s Greenwich Village across from the Village Vanguard. He got much of his training playing the jazz circuit from New York to Washington D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John&#8217;s compositions have been performed by his quartet, quintet and sextet in New York City at the Blue Note, Jazzmania, Jazz Cultural-Theatre, Greene Street, the Rainbow Room and Jilly&#8217;s; in Washington D.C. at the One Step Down and Blues Alley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Bianculli has enjoyed a considerable following at the Hyatt Regency for 19 years and the New York Hilton for 2 years. John has played numerous other clubs, concerts and festivals in addition to a number of television and radio performances<br>in the metropolitan area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About his music, the Home News and Tribune writes, \u201cIt invokes beauty and playful fancy, stirs the imagination, and goes straight to the heart. She began singing at a young age and later learned violin and music production in her hometown Charlotte, NC. She attended an arts school where she received classical training and went on study music education on the collegiate level at UNC Charlotte and Elizabeth City State University. She fuses elements of her southern roots, hip-hop, classical, jazz, and R&amp;B into a stlye that is almost percussive and uniquely her own. After a viral video of Bri playing Lizzo&#8217;s &#8220;Truth Hurts&#8221; was reposted on Lizzo&#8217;s instagram page, she became known for playing covers of her favorite hiphop and pop tracks. Bri was featured in the 2021 Netflix film &#8220;Bruised&#8221; directed by and starring Halle Berry. Although influenced by Freddie Hubbard and occasionally recording a hard bop number, most of Browne\u2019s output during that era was clearly geared toward the marketplace. A commercial pilot, Browne largely dropped out of music by the late \u201980s, but came back in 1994 with a recording for Hip Bop in several settings that included the credible jazz date Another Shade of Browne. Ms. Denner has released three critically acclaimed CDs under her own name. She is the Musical Director for the group Cocomama whose debut CD Quiero was included in the 2016 Grammy pre-nominations for Best Tropical Latin album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She has performed at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, the United Nations, Studio 54, the Apollo Theatre, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York City Marathon, the Michigan Womyn\u2019s Festival, the Guatemala City International Jazz Festival and as a musical ambassador for the State Department in Central America.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a composer, she has written music for award-winning films as well as the New Jersey Tap Ensemble of which she is Musical Director.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nicki is a devoted educator having served on the faculty of the Stanford University Summer Jazz Workshop, Campamento Internacional de Jazz in Guatemala, the JazzCabaret Festival in Ketchikan Alaska, Jazzhouse Kids, the New York City Tap Festival and the New Jersey Tap Festival. Born in Newark and raised in Irvington, NJ James has been playing since he was 9 and professionally since he was 14 years old. Star student of the New Brunswick Jazz Institute, James was sought out by the late great Betty Carter in 1994 and he has played and performed with her since her death in 1998. James was also mentored by the late great Donald Byrd while attending Delaware State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">James has performed all over the world as a side man for several major industry artists and bands. He has played the theme music for a couple well known TV shows and TV soundtracks and has played on over 50 recordings during his career. James now embarks on his own journey recording and releasing his 4th album project as an artist (his 1st for Next Paradigm Records). In addition to his success as a side man, he is a successful band leader and the founder of Brick City Soul Collective. He is consistently building his online following one fan at a time. James says \u201cbeing a musician and a working musician is hard enough, now that I have to take time away from the music just to build an online following can become a little overwhelming, but I\u2019m having fun and doing what I love, so it\u2019s gonna build itself over time. Mark&#8217;s father was the Pastor of his hometown church Mt. Zion C.O.G.I.C. up until his passing February 1, 2007. He learned how to play the guitar at 11 when his father re-strung his Fender Stratocaster that had been collecting dust under the bed for over 10 years. Then later became a Bass Player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time he was in Jr. High he was performing on the Today Show and the Kennedy estate with his school\u2019s jazz band and played on a recording project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time he was in High School he had played artist such as Cheryl Pepsi Riley and Will Downing just to name a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After High School he began touring with varies artist in countries such as Italy, Germany and Japan Just to name a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later in life he began touring with artist like Gloria Gainer and a world beat music group called Mecca Bodega. This enabled him to tour countries such as; Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, Tokyo.
